The short and very definitive answer is NO—the luxury industry is most certainly not on its way out.

Yes, the numbers are not quite as glamorous as they have been in previous years, but growth projections still indicate a 1 to 3 percent climb this year alone, according to the latest research by McKinsey & Company.

But, more importantly than any data is the fact that the luxury industry is built on aspiration.

Luxury will not meet its demise, because at the root of all luxury is desire.
For this reason, turbulent times can actually trigger a greater desire for luxury.

03. INTENTION

Almost two decades ago I coined the phrase “create-the-dream” to describe the need to appeal to human desire in order to be effective in luxury marketing. Today, this phrase is all the more relevant.

What inner desire or dream does your product or service evoke?

How can you emphasize this aspect of what you offer?

Remember, luxury is alive as long as the dream lives on…and the dream is inseparable from humankind.
