Luxury lives in the composition

LUXURY INSIGHTS | September 29, 2026
Timeless insights for luxury brands.

As an avid reader and a proud perfectionist (yes, I meant that!), I have been reading The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control by Katherine Morgan Schafler. It is both incredibly profound and hilariously accurate.

Amidst the large amount of excellent psychological content within the book, this point stood out most to me…

01. INSIGHT

An artwork is not experienced in isolation.
Its impact depends on its placement: the space around it, the light that illuminates it, and the room it inhabits.

In the same way, luxury branding must consider the whole composition.

Website and collateral copywriting, design, photography, packaging, client experience, follow-up communications (and the list goes on) should never be treated as disconnected assets.

A beautiful typeface cannot compensate for generic messaging.
Exceptional copywriting cannot fully carry a brand that feels visually inconsistent.
And a spectacular website quickly loses value if the journey after an enquiry feels impersonal.

Each element must serve to heighten the others.

In essence, luxury is created in the composition: the coherence of every detail, and the intention behind how each one relates to the next.

02. INSPIRATION

“Details are not details.
They make the design.”

– Charles Eames

03. IMPLEMENTATION

Take a moment to review one brand asset this week and ask yourself whether it feels intentionally placed within the wider world of your brand.

Make it a brilliant week,
