Choose your words wisely
LUXURY INSIGHTS | June 16, 2026
Timeless insights for luxury brands.
My husband and I enjoyed a movie night last week and it was his turn to choose the film. Reluctantly, I found myself watching F1, but I was pleasantly surprised by the script.
A moment that stood out was the poignant (and rather tense) exchange between the team’s two drivers.
When the younger driver states he will "hope for some lucky breaks," Brad Pitt’s character immediately corrects him: "Create your own breaks,” he says, for “hope is not a strategy.”
It is a brilliant reminder of how language actually shapes our reality.
01. INSIGHT
In the luxury sector particularly, word choice is critical.
Your messaging works in conjunction with your brand visuals to create your positioning, and high-end clientele do not invest in uncertainty; they invest in authority, proficiency, and absolute confidence.
That is why the words you select to represent your brand either elevate your perceived value or quietly erode it.
Passive language, such as "hope," "try,” and “someday,” signals a lack of conviction.
Conversely, precise, authoritative language signals mastery.
When you curate your copywriting with the same meticulous attention to detail as your products or services, you stop hoping for breaks and start creating opportunities.
Exceptional brands do not hope to be recognized; they articulate their value indisputably.
02. INSPIRATION
"The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter."
– Mark Twain
03. IMPLEMENTATION
Are passive words unintentionally diluting your authority?
