I'VE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT LIFE'S MEANT TO BE EXTRAORDINARY...
But, as time ticked by, the status quo became my 'norm' (and my comfort zone), and soon I was questioning whether my life would ever turn out like I dreamed it would.
Do you ever feel that way? Hear me out…
I graduated with a Master’s Degree from the most prestigious University in South Africa, and then, against all odds and everyone telling me it was “impossible,” I pursued my dream of living in America. The journey wasn’t quite that simple though, and so my overseas adventure began in Vancouver, Canada, where I landed a corporate role in Event Management, and worked long, hard hours while I awaited my US Green Card.
After getting what I wanted (AKA, the right to live in the United States), I packed many overweight suitcases and boarded a plane to Hawai’i, to live my American Dream.
But it was hard - jobs were scarce, rent was high and my five-star lifestyle desires were tamed by the realities of island living.
Thankfully I’m the ambitious type who refuses to settle for anything less than I know I’m meant for, and so, while I did corporate communications jobs by day, I did freelance writing by night. I brainstormed ideas on the way to work, I wrote on the beach before sunrise, after the Friday night fireworks, at the gym, and in the lobbies of glamorous hotels. I wrote and wrote, and soon enough I had built a following and caught the interest of bigwigs on the island, and went on to manage the Marketing for Hawai’i’s most prestigious resort.
As I proved my marketing skills I become a global social media trainer for the renowned International resort company for whom I worked. I co-created the company’s social media manual, I edited two locally celebrated books, I was featured in numerous local magazines, and I become a certified trainer. Life was good, but...
I knew I was meant for more.
After meeting the man of my dreams and relocating to Colorado, I continued to balance my thriving corporate career with a strong desire for something more.
On paper it must have looked like I had it all. I was successful in the traditional sense, but not fulfilled. Don't get me wrong – I'm forever grateful for the opportunities I've been granted and O adore the communications industry – I just felt there had to be more to life than working a 9-5, limiting my income and impact, and pretending to be satisfied with just two weeks of vacation time each year.
So while I put my knowledge of marketing and customer aquistition to great use by day, working for multi-million dollar corporations and achieving record sales numbers, I continued to write by night.
In 2013 I landed a publishing deal, and a year later (against all industry odds for a first-time author), I found myself on the Best Sellers’ list. It was a dream come true, but...it still wasn’t enough.
I felt called for more – to contribute and make an impact. I just didn’t know how to create a fulfilling business on my own.
I dabbled for years. I followed successful women on social media hoping to learn their secrets. I listened to every webinar I saw advertised, I downloaded every freebie I came across, and tried and tried to launch a business on my own. Nothing worked!
Finally I'd had enough. I reached what I now call the 'insanity point' and realized if I truly wanted to achieve a different result, I had to do something drastically different to what I'd been doing.
And really when I think about it, it wasn't that drastic at all - truthfully it was quite logical - I invested in a coach who had already accomplished what I dreamed of.
And that's when everything changed. I took my business from grand idea to up and running in just 90 Days.
I went from dreaming my dreams to actually living them!
